Liability insurance for me and my family

I came recently in end of March to Germany and need liability insurance to be done for me and my family: husband and a child of 5 years.

I already have health insurance though.

Liability insurance as I am renting an apartment, so, by mistake, if we make some damage to the house or rented property, or even if by mistake, our child breaks something outside our house, in a shop or school, or at friend’s home, which covers that.

Please provide details, like what all are the policies for this, what is covered, what not, how can I apply, what all documents are required.
